English Task 2 A An The No/Not

Task II

The use of articles / Article (the, a, an)

The article is an adjective that indicates how special or how common a word noun. There are three types of articles, namely: the, a / an, and who do not have the article (zero article).

1. A / An - Indefinite Articles

- A is used for something that is not necessarily. As an example:
            1) I have a pen ( saya punya sebuah pulpen ) This sentence shows that I do not have a specific book, just book in general.

-  A is also used just to a singular noun that can be calculated. For example:
            - a pen , a pencil , a mouse , a glass

-          An have the same meaning as A
A used before words that begin with consonants such as b, c, d, g, p.
An used before words that begin with the letters / vowels such as a, e, i, o, or u. For example:
                        1) A cow , a bear , a car , a baby
                        2) An apple , an egg , an umbrella

An also can be used in front of words that begin with the letter "h".
An useable sometimes it may not, for example: a hotel, or "an hotel". Here the sound "h" in the word is pronounced hotel.
But sometimes also an be used in front of words that begin with the letter "h". For example: an honor, not a salary. Beep "h" in the word honor is not pronounced, so that these words actually begins with the vowel "o". So, we need to use an.

 2. The - Article certainly
The use for something special and definitely and used to something previously mentioned. As an example:
-          Please open the window
-          Please bring the water for me

3. Zero article (do not use the article)

Zero article commonly used when something can not be distinguished whether included definite (definite) or indefinite (not necessarily), but only there.

Zero article is used in front of plural nouns that can be calculated. For example:

* I like eggs. I like an eggs.
* Flowers are beautiful. A flowers are beautiful.

Zero article used before singular noun that can not be calculated. For example:

* I like milk. I like a milk
* Soccer is fun. The soccer is fun

Zero article is used in front of the noun Special / herself (proper noun). For example:

* My name is Jeremy. My name is a jeremy.
* I Live in London. I Live in a London.

Differences in use of the article A or AN.

As an article, 'a' and 'an' means one. In Indonesian, the article can be translated into an / an / an / a ff. It depends on the noun that follows. For example,

an apple Sebuah apel
a lady = seorang wanita
a tiger = seekor harimau
a leaf = sehelai daun

THE use of the article

There are a few rules you must understand the use of the article.

1. The generally used to refer to a noun that has never been mentioned before. Given the, noun is meant to be more specific. The noun can be countable, can also uncountable noun. If countable noun, the noun can be singular, can also plural. In this case, the can mean that or that, or sometimes this.

Contoh:

-          I met a guy last night. The guy asked my number and whether I would go out for a date. (number = nomor telepon, date = kencan). Dalam kalimat ini, the bisa digantikan dengan that.
-          The water in my well is contaminated. (well = sumur, contaminated = terkontaminasi). Dalam kalimat ini, the tidak pas kalau digantikan dengan that, karena “water” di kalimat ini sudah diterangkan oleh “in my well“. Coba terjemahkan, terasa janggal bukan?
-          Three students didn’t perform well in my exam. The (three) students hadn’t studied hard enough before the exam. Dalam kalimat ini, kata three adalah optional: bisa digunakan, bisa juga dihilangkan, karena maknanya sudah dipahami oleh lawan bicara atau pembaca. Di kalimat ini, the dapat digantikan dengan those/these. Jika anda masih ragu dalam penggunaan those/these, akan lebih aman jika anda gunakan the.
-          There are many persons named Agnes Monica on Facebook. You will have hard time to find the Agnes Monica who sings Matahariku.

NO and NOT
